The city planners on the downtown project incorporating Jefferson’s legacy and vision into the downtown renewal. Thomas Jefferson has a vision for Charlottesville. By using Palladio as a connection, my research can tie together the classical examples of community and city planning to the downtown renewal in Charlottesville. Jefferson once called Palladio’s work his “Bible” while putting together his own architectural works. This evidence is valuable to my research as it will draw a line from the classical idea of architecture and community to Thomas Jefferson’s idea of Charlottesville. This document is important to my research because upon reading the text, there are many sections that provide evidence of direct classical influence in Palladio’s work. All of Palladio’s designs are directly influenced by the simplicity of classical architecture. This primary source is a book of architectural plans and drawings by the Italian architect, Andrea Palladio.
